March 10, 2009 - Arkansas "Storms"

I was hoping I would get lucky today and a storm would remain isolated enough to become interesting....unfortunately that didn't even come close to happening. I started off near Chester, AR (between Fayetteville and Fort Smith) and waited on the storms to fire (and get a couple hours of badly needed sleep). Storms were extremely slow to develop but eventually a few stronger cells began developing near Fayetteville. I drove up to just south of Fayetteville and waited. Within just a few minutes the weak storms had put out a shelf cloud. I got a picture of that and then headed south down the line. I thought about booking it east and getting ahead of the whole mess but decided there just was on reason for that since it was obvious nothing of interest was going to happen. I then noticed to my west a few nice towers developing on the southern end of the line. I then drove west to meet them and soon a really nice shelf cloud appeared. I got a few pics and video and I may be able to do a time lapse of the shelf cloud approaching. I let it pass me and then I darted east a few miles to see if I could get any neat shelf cloud night pictures but the shelf cloud had really lost its formation so I called it a day. There wasn't any lightning with any of the storms until later when the line strengthend over by Russellville.
