Bart Comstock and I made our way out to Buxton, NC on Cape Hatteras to ride out Hurricane Earl. We measured sustained winds of nearly 50mph with stronger gusts. The pressure bottomed out at 988mb. On September 3 we awoke to find much of the island covered in storm surge. We were stuck on the island until Saturday Morning. Some sand dunes pretty much got washed onto the road just north of Rodanthe and it took quite some time for the road crews to clear that off. Here are pictures...will probably write up a longer report later.
