2007 Chase Year
The 2007 chase year is in the books and thanks to a substantial increase in the number of chases I had my best year yet. I had 16 individual chase days covering 9 months and including chases in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas. I also had about another 25 local chases/outings that were within 50 miles of my home and included some pretty good video/photo captures. I estimate between 8,000 - 10,000 total miles traveled. I observed 15 tornadoes this year (over 4 tornado days) which brings my total to 21 tornadoes observed since I started more serious storm chasing in 2004. I was able to stay away from any large hail with the largest observed being nickel size and top winds observed being only about 50mph. My wife joined me for a few chases, I did a few solo, but most were just Scott Bell and myself (the May 5 and May 6 chases had Matt Crowther join us and Garrett Lewis joined in as well on the May 6 chase). My most memorable chase was March 28 when Scott Bell and myself observed 7 tornadoes. Scott Bell and I had also had a bit of our footage from April 21, 2007 used in the Storms of 2007 DVD for Charity.
