Storm Chase from Ozark, AR to near Searcy, AR

Wasn't for sure if i would go chasing today, but by 2:20pm i was off as the clouds just to my East were going up fast.

From just North of Ozark, AR around 2:20pm looking East

Within just 15 minutes i was looking straight down the interstate at a nice looking severe supercellular storm.

From near Clarksville, AR looking East down I-40 at 2:28pm.

The main problem from here on was a combination of very bad road options and being about 30 minutes away from the storm.

I did become parallel to the storm near Morrilton, AR.

From I-40 looking North, near Morrilton, AR at 3:20pm

Once I-40 gets past Morrilton it starts heading more southeasterly as opposed to straight east so by the time i had gotten to Conway and finally got on the N-S road option (HWY 65) that was best i was an additional 10 miles SSW of the storm.

As i was travelling north along Hwy 65 the storm was still travelling ENE and putting even more distance between us. By the time i got to Greenbrier, AR i realized with the road options east i would be playing catch-up all day. Luckily though a storm developed behind the first storm and i was in nearly perfect position to intercept it.

I took Hwy 285 towards Wooly Hollow State Park and about halfway the base of the storm began to sneak into view.

There was minimal rotation with this fairly high wall cloud as it swept past. It even had a small RFD. Taken looking NE at 3:54pm.

The storm was also putting out a nice mammatus display to the SE.

From here the road options become unbeatable. The roads were curvy and none went east with the storm. I had to go south 10 miles on Hwy 107, then 6 miles east on Hwy 110, then 12 miles north on Hwy 5 and i made it to Rose Bud, AR.

I was probably about 20-30 minutes west of the storm and I decided since I would have to go right through Searcy and the road options east of there werent good either, that I would call off the chase.

Rose Bud still had golf ball size hail on the ground.

The storm(s) by now had tornado warnings with them but i was ready to get home.

On the way home the front was trying to kick up some stuff.

Looking west towards Conway at 4:58pm. Looks a bit like the Statue of Liberty doesnt it?

And back in Clarksville looking East at 6:03pm
