I targeted the general area southwest of McAlester, Oklahoma. Storms began firing around 6pm just east of the I-35 corridor in south-central Oklahoma. By 650pm i was seeing some weak storms just to my west.
That storm continued NE but my attention was drawn toward the SE where a new storm was coming into view. Within a few minutes the severe thunderstorm warning was upped to a Tornado Warning. At 717pm I was looking due west at Wapanucka I saw a lowering emmerge from behind the rain. When the wall cloud first appeared it actually had a spiraling snakely funnel cloud halfway to the ground but within seconds it had risen and vanished into the parent wall cloud. The wall cloud did a quick transformation:
seconds after the funnel cloud lifted (717pm) to this 2 minutes later (719pm) to this 7 minutes later (724pm) and finally 8 minutes later just before it dissapears behind rain
(725pm) The wall cloud quickly was heading northeast and
just as suddenly as it had emmerged from the rain it headed right
back in. After dark fell I managed to get
some nice lightning pictures
