May 18th and 19th, 2004 BUSTED!
There was a slight risk of severe weather across south-central Kansas. We knew there was a chance that nothing would develop as there was a descent capping inversion and sure enough nothing developed in our target area. We ended up in Wichita and spent the night in El Dorado, KS. Some storms did develop further northeast near Kansas City. For the next day there was a chance of severe storms across Nebraska and Iowa north into the Dakotas and Minnesota. Since we were already halfway to Omaha we decided to press on. But again nothing developed in our area. We ended up in Nebraska City, NE. One interesting thing about both days was our encounters with the Doppler on Wheels caravan. After seeing them near El Dorado on the 18th we saw them again in southwest Iowa on the 19th. Too bad we all got it wrong. For the 19th the storms were up in northern Iowa.
TOTAL MILES TRAVELED - OVER 1100
