October 2009 Storm Chases

October 15, 2009 - Western Arkansas Chase

I woke up around 3am, looked at radar, and took off towards the storms. I hoped to get to them as they got to Mena but they were just a bit faster. I ended up dashing south on Hwy 71 all the way down to Ashdown, AR where I intercepted a severe storm there. I had a few nickel size hail stones hit me and it looked like there was quarter size hail on the road. I also took a few pics of flooding along The Little River and a few pics of the EF-3 Tornado Aftermath in Mena. Its been over 6 months since the town was devastated.

October 8, 2009 - Western Arkansas Chase

This chase ended up about like expected with another squall line. The stupid line had hardly any lightning along the leading edge where I was so nothing much to show. The most interesting thing I saw was from some showers that developed near Clarksville, AR (7pm).. they were getting organized very quickly but like all the pre-frontal stuff it fizzled.
